Machindra FC and Shree Bhagwati Club Tokha have secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the 32nd Triveni Cup 2081 after thrilling victories in their respective Round of 16 matches on Friday.
In the first match, Machindra FC triumphed over defending champions Laligurans Youth Club Bhujung in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 6-5 in sudden death. The match had ended in a 1-1 draw after regular time. Laligurans' foreign recruit Glory gave them an early lead in the 30th minute, while Machindra's forward Anil Rana Magar equalized in the 66th minute to send the game into extra time. After a goalless extra period, it was Machindra who held their nerve in the shootout to advance.
In the second match of the day, Shree Bhagwati Club Tokha defeated Thadarai Adhikari Samaj, Dihithok Lamjung 2-1 in an exciting contest. Tokha's striker Richard made an immediate impact, scoring within the first minute of the match. However, Thadarai Adhikari Samaj quickly responded, leveling the score in the 3rd minute through Oheneba Adusei Henry. The match remained level until the 57th minute when Tokha's Nishant Majhi scored a beautiful flip header off a free kick from skipper Urgen Sherpa, securing the victory and sending Tokha through to the next round.
Both teams will now look ahead to the quarterfinals, where the competition intensifies as the race for the Triveni Cup continues.
