The 32nd edition of the Triveni Cup football tournament, Lamjung's largest and most prestigious football event, is set to begin in the second week of Poush 2024. Organized annually by the Triveni Youth Club of Besishahar, the tournament will officially start on Poush 12 this year, marking another exciting chapter in the competition’s history.
The announcement was made during a press meet held by the club on Saturday, where club officials revealed key details about the competition, including the increased prize money and new features aimed at enhancing the tournament's appeal.
Increased Prize Money
One of the most significant highlights this year is the increase in prize money. According to club president Rajkumar Ghimire, the first-place prize has been raised to 120,0000 rupees (1.2m), up from 80,0000 rupees last year. In addition to the cash prize, the winning team will also receive the prestigious Triveni Cup, a gold medal, and a certificate.
According to club secretary, Pravin Wagle, The second-place prize has also been increased from 400,000 rupees to 600,000 rupees, with the team receiving a silver medal and a certificate.
The two semi-finalist teams that do not reach the finals will each receive 200,000 rupees, along with a certificate. As an additional incentive, individual awards will be given for the best player and highest scorer, with each receiving 25,000 rupees, along with a gold medal and a certificate.
In a new initiative, the Man of the Match for each game will be announced from the quarter-final stage onwards.
Free Team Registration & New Format
In a bid to make the competition more inclusive, the Triveni Youth Club has announced that team registration will be free for all participants this year. The competition will feature 16 teams, with local clubs and invited teams participating. The invited teams will join the tournament starting from the quarter-finals.
Budget and Triveni Evening
The organizers have estimated a total cost of 8.49 million rupees for the competition, which includes prize money, logistics, and other expenses. Of this, 2 million rupees will be dedicated solely to managing the invited teams.
In addition to the football tournament, the Triveni Youth Club will also organize a Triveni Evening on 15 Poush, coinciding with Tamu Lhosar. This cultural event, which will be held at Manange Chautara, Besishahar, will feature a street food festival and will cost an estimated 1 million rupees to organize. The total estimated cost for both the Triveni Cup and the Triveni Evening is 9.49 million rupees.
Seeking Support for Success
During the press conference, Rajkumar Ghimire emphasized that the Triveni Cup has become a symbol of pride for Lamjung district, and the success of the event relies on the support and cooperation of the community. The organizers are seeking financial support from various sectors, including government bodies, non-government organizations, business sectors, and local networks.
Despite challenges such as the lack of a suitable playing field, the Triveni Youth Club has already begun efforts to secure funding and manage logistics, with a long-term vision of making the event a major national sporting attraction.
