Birgunj United FC has registered a first win in Nepal Super League.

They defeated Sporting Ilam FC 2-1 thanks to a late penalty decision awarded by FIFA referee Kabin Banjankar.

Both teams were ready to settle down on a dire 1-1 draw but controversial decision made by the referee changed the score line.

Sporting Ilam FC seized the initiative early on, with Aashish Chapagain breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute. The goal provided Ilam with an early lead and set the tone for an exciting contest. However, Birgunj United FC responded resiliently, and Bhison Gurung managed to level the score in the 33rd minute, ensuring that both teams entered halftime on equal terms.

As the second half unfolded, both sides couldn't perform their best, resulting in a 1-1 draw till the regulation time. In the extra time, penalty goal ensured the first win for Birgunj.

Following this match, Sporting Ilam FC finds themselves in the rock bottom with four points from six matches while Birgunj moved one position up with five points from five matches.
