News Makwanpur Gold Cup: Police Advance To The Semis, MMC Bow Out

Nepal Police Club have advanced to the semi-finals of the Local-level Martyr's Memorial Makwanpur Gold Cup 2079. Police defeated Manang Marshyangdi Club 1-0 to advance to the final four of the tournament.

Manang Marshyangdi Club had fielded the likes of Bishal Shrestha, Bishal Rai, Sujal Shrestha and Bimal Gharti Magar at Piple Stadium in Hetauda.

In a highly competitive match, Bharat Shah gave Nepal Police Club the lead in the 35th minute with a sumptuous volley from outside the box. Goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha's clearance was directly intercepted by Bharat who them struck the volley to the top right corner of Bishal's goal.

Just five minutes later, Manang were awarded a penalty after Bimal was brought down in the box. Anjan Bista stepped up to take the spot-kick but his shot was saved by Police goalkeeper Shatrudhan Chaudhary.

Manang created numerous chances in the second half but Shatrudhan paried away every single attempt that came his way.

Police manager Ananta Raj Thapa and players Hem Tamang and Hemanta Shrestha were sent off towards the end of the match for altercations with the referee.

Home side Bijay Youth Club and Nawa Jana Jagriti Youth Club, Simara will face each other in tomorrow's quarterfinal.

The winner of the competition will get Rs 15 lakhs in cash along with the title while the runner-up will get Rs 10 lakhs. Similarly, those who excel in the individual category will also be given Rs 25,000 cash and a trophy each. The best player in the competition will get a motorcycle sponsored by the Hetauda School of Management.

A total of 12 teams including top clubs of the country are participating in the competition.
