The President's Cup, the Maldives' oldest and most prestigious football competition, has started off well for Kiran Chemjong's team Maziya Sports and Recreation.

Maziya defeated Super United Sports 2-0 in their first match on Monday. Maziya won thanks to goals from Samuha Ali and Akram Abdul Ghani.

The President's Cup, also known as the National Championship, has been held in the Maldives since 1946. The competition is open to the top four teams in the Dhivehi Premier League.

This competition, according to Maldivian media, is where football began in the Maldives. Maziya has only won this prestigious competition once in their history, in 2015.
