On Saturday September 15th, games will kick off for Season II of the Mahila
Premier League (MPL) at 10:00 am at Grassroots Recreational Center in Mandikatar.
MPL is
Nepal's first women's futsal league, organized by The WE United Project and funded by the
European Union.
The League is a fully women-run initiative: played by women, organized by
women and refereed by women. Over the course of eight weeks, eight teams will compete for the
title of Kathmandu's best women's futsal team in order to promote a culture of competition,
camaraderie, and collaboration in Nepali women's futsal.
League games will be played on
Saturdays, running from September 15th—November 3rd 2018.
Over the eight weeks, each team will play every other team once and points will be awarded for
winning, tying and losing games.
The top three teams at the end of the League will be awarded
experiential team prizes, donated by WE United’s amazing prize sponsors that include Samsara
Designs, Gymkhana, Shambala Hotel, Riverside Resort, Gorkha Aesthetics and others.
In support of The WE United Project’s mission to empower women and girls in Nepal through
dynamic sport-based activities, the League provides space for women players to interact with one
another, develop communication and leadership skills on and off the field, and build a supportive
network for women involvement in sport.
Approximately 80 women and girls will participate in the League, which is refereed by
professionally-certified female referees.
As
one player, Neliya Gurung, commented last year, the MPL “is a great platform for all of us to come
together, know each other, and make a positive mark on our community.”
The League table, as well as team and player profiles, will be regularly uploaded and updated on
