Karnali Government's ambitious project to construct a stadium in Surkhet is nearing completion, promising to transform the region into a prime destination for international and regional sporting events.

With an estimated cost of NRs 2 billion, the new stadium is designed to accommodate up to 10,000 spectators and will feature a comprehensive array of sports facilities.

Once finished, the stadium will boast a football field, an athletics track, and a swimming pool. In addition, it will include a covered hall with seating for 1,500 spectators, as well as dedicated courts for handball and basketball. Outdoor sports infrastructures will also be part of the facility, further enhancing its versatility.

The stadium is expected to be operational in time for the 10th National Games scheduled for later this year. Its high-capacity and modern amenities position it as a viable venue for major regional tournaments such as the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship and other age-bar & international football championships.

To fully leverage its potential, Surkhet will need to develop additional infrastructure to support these events, including at least three-star hotels and improved airport facilities.

The local government is confident that with these enhancements, Surkhet will be well-equipped to host various SAARC sporting events, making it a significant hub for regional sports activities.
