Kathmandu (GoalNepal) - Netherlands have registered all three points in the group A fixture against African champions Senegal at the FIFA World Cup. Cody Gakpo and Davi Klassen scored a goal each towards the end of the match to hand the Dutch side an all-important win.
Playing at the World Cup finals after an eight-year hiatus, the Netherlands had to dig deep to take the lead. Frenkie De Jong, who was having a rather ineffective game played a wonderful delivery into the box which was headed into the back of the net by PSV Eindhoven's Gakpo. Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy stepped off the line to punch away the cross but couldn't get there ahead of the young Dutch forward.
The Netherlands added another towards the end of the match. Substitute Memphis Depay's shot was parried away by Mendy but fell to another substitute Klassen who buried it past the Chelsea goalkeeper.
With this win, the Netherlands have equaled Ecuador on three points in the group. Ecuador registered a 2-0 win over Qatar in the opening day of the tournament.
Earlier today, England inflicted a 6-2 defeat on Iran. USA and Wales of the same group are scheduled to face each other later today.
