The Shahid Lakhan Himalaya Devi Cup open knockout football tournament will be held on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti this year as every year in Pipalchhap, Shahid Lakhan village municipality of Gorkha.

Competition Coordinator Tilak Gurung informed that all the preparations for the competition to be organized by Shree Himalaya Devi Youth Club, Ghairung, Pipalchhap, Gorkha have reached the final stage.

The winner of the competition, which will be held from January 10 at the local playground in Pipalchhap, will get 120,000 rupees including the title and the runner-up will get 60,000 rupees. Similarly, attractive prizes have also been arranged for individual categories, said the organizer.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the competition in Nine-A-Side format, said coordinator Gurung. He also informed that a team registration fee of Rs 12,000 has been fixed for the clubs interested in participating in the competition. 

According to Gurung, the main attraction of the competition is traditionally bullfighting, handicraft competition and other cultural programs.

Stating that the competition would provide opportunities in football to the local players of the village, Coordinator Gurung said that the competition was a special festival for the people of Ghairung in Gorkha as well as culturally and traditionally.
