Domestic action returned to Thailand for the first time in more than six months as the Thai League 1 got back underway at the weekend but not without a couple of COVID-19 related glitches.

The quarter-finals of the Vietnamese Cup saw football return to the Southeast Asian country for the first time in seven weeks while the top four all won in Myanmar, where the race for the title is heating up.

There was also action in Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos.

Thailand: Chiangrai return with a win

Defending Thai League 1 champions Chiangrai United enjoyed a winning restart to their campaign as Chotipat Poomkeaw scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over Prachuap on Saturday.

But the season's resumption did not go as smoothly as would have been hoped with the top-of-the-table clash between Ratchaburi and Bangkok United as well as the game between PG Pathum United and Buriram United postponed due to COVID-19 related incidences.

There was also bad luck for third-placed Port FC, who could have leapfrogged the top two with a win but saw their game postponed after 88 minutes, with the score at 1-1, after a power cut in the stadium resulted in a blackout.

It was a better weekend for Suphanburi, who jumped to fifth after a 2-0 victory against Nakhon Ratchasima while Sukhothai are up to sixth after seeing off Muangthong United 1-0.

Elsewhere, Samut Prakan City claimed a first win of the season by condemning second-from-bottom Rayong to a fifth defeat in five games and bottom side Trat also remain in search of their first points after losing 3-2 against Chonburi.

Vietnam: Cup competition marks season's return

Games are up and running again in Vietnam as the country staged its first competitive action since late July with the quarter-finals of the Vietnamese Cup being held over the weekend.

Hanoi FC were big winners as Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Van Quyet each scored two in a thumping 7-0 victory against second-tier XSKT Can Tho to advance to Wednesday's semi-finals.

Malaysia: JDT march on

There's no stopping Johor Darul Ta'zim in Malaysia, where Safawi Rasid's early goal gave the Southern Tigers a narrow 1-0 win over Terengganu as they made it six wins from seven games and kept their unbeaten record intact.

Kedah jumped to second after they came from a goal down to post a 2-1 victory over Felda United for their fourth win on the bounce while Perak are third following a 1-0 win against UiTM.
