Rara Football Club, Dhankuta has entered the semi-finals of the ongoing 6th local level Shahid Smriti Makwanpur Gold Cup International Invitational Knockout Football Tournament here in Hetauda.
In the third quarter-final held on Monday, Rara defeated Tribhuvan Army Football Club, which was considered a contender and recently won the title of Pokhara Gold Cup, in sudden death and secured a place in the last four.
Before that, both the teams played a thrilling 1-1 draw in the scheduled time match at Gauritar stadium. At the beginning of the game, the army took the lead with Ras Bahadur Magar's goal and could not save it. Towards the end of the game, Ajayi Martins scored for Rara and brought the game to an exciting draw.
Rara disappointed Army 5-4 in sudden death as the result of the game could not be decided even by tie breaker. Rara's goalkeeper Deep Karki was declared the man of the match. The organizer informed that the fourth and last quarterfinal match between Three Star Club and APF will be held on Tuesday.
Organized by Makwanpur District Football Association and under the management of New Danfe Football Club, Hetauda, the winner of the competition will receive 1.5 million in cash along with the title, while the runner-up will receive 1 million. The final match will be held on the 27th of Magh.
