Rico Pradhan, a footballer of proud Nepalese heritage, has been selected to represent New Zealand in the upcoming OFC U-19 Championship in Samoa this July.

As a key player for both Christchurch United and the Nepalese community club Nepal United FC, Rico’s selection to the national squad is a testament to his remarkable journey and dedication to the sport.

Rico’s football career began at a young age with Christchurch United, where he progressed through the ranks of their academy. His talent and hard work saw him rise to the top team, competing in the Southern League. As a professional player for Christchurch United, Rico has consistently demonstrated his exceptional skills and commitment, earning recognition as one of the brightest young talents in New Zealand football.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Rico has remained deeply connected to his Nepalese roots through his involvement with Nepal United FC in Christchurch. Since 2020, Rico has been a vital part of this community club, where he shares his expertise and passion for football with fellow Nepalese players. His contributions have been instrumental in uplifting the skills and morale of the team, helping them achieve significant successes. Notably, he represented Nepal United FC in the Tenzing Hillary Cup in 2020 and played a crucial role in their victory in the 2023 edition in Hamilton and as runners-up in the 2024 edition in Christchurch.

The Nepal New Zealand Friendship Society of Canterbury and Nepal United FC has lauded Rico’s achievements and his ongoing commitment to both his professional career and his community.

“The entire Nepalese community in New Zealand is thrilled and proud of Rico’s achievement and wishes him the very best in the championship,” said the facebook post of the Society.
