Amir Alagic, the current Technical Director of Sri Lanka Football and former head coach of the Sri Lanka National Men's Football Team, will leave the position at the end of June 2022.

Amir Alagic joined Sri Lanka Football as the Head Coach of the Men's National Team on February 15, 2020, and was appointed as the Technical Director in February 2022. A press conference, led by FFSL President Jaswar Umar, was held to bid farewell to Alagic.

Jaswar Umar, the President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, stated that the FFSL, FIFA, and Alagic had agreed to part ways due to the country's current economic situation. In light of the situation, FFSL believes that this is the best course of action considering the country’s situation and Alagic’s own professional career.

"I am going as a happy man," Alagic said at a press conference. "I've restored hope, earned respect, and introduced football to rural areas. I owe a debt of gratitude to the majority of the media for their unwavering support. I owe President Jaswar Umar and his administration a debt of gratitude for believing in me. During this period, President Jaswar was a pillar of strength. We must continue where we left off. I may be leaving, but my heart will always be here!"

Sri Lanka competed in the World Cup Qualifiers in South Korea, the SAFF Championship in the Maldives, and the Four Nations Prime Minister Trophy in Sri Lanka, finishing second under him as the coach.
