Kathmandu: Nepal’s hopes of securing their first international women’s football title were dashed once again as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Myanmar in the final of the International Women’s Football Tournament. The match took place at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor, where Nepal finished as the runners-up.

The match saw Nepal trailing by a goal in the 62nd minute, and just two minutes later, they conceded another goal. Despite their efforts, the Nepali women’s team could not break their title drought, missing out on the chance to make history with their first-ever international title.

This defeat marked Nepal’s 13th appearance in a final, and Coach Rajendra Tamang, who led the Nepali women’s team, faced his third consecutive final loss. Under his leadership, the team played in their third final today, but the quest for victory remained elusive. Nepal’s national women’s football team has yet to secure a title in the 39 years and four decades of competing in international tournaments, having reached the final 13 times without clinching the trophy.

On a positive note, Nepali women’s football midfielder Renuka Nagarkote was recognized for her stellar performance during the tournament and was named the Best Player of the International Women’s Championship. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 along with a trophy for her outstanding contribution to the team’s journey.

Despite the loss, the Nepali women's team continues to showcase their resilience and determination, hoping to break the title curse in future competitions.
