New Road Team (NRT), the previous champions of the NRNA Ilam Gold Cup, have secured a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2nd Ilam Gold Cup International Invitational Knockout Football Tournament.

In a thrilling encounter, NRT overcame GTA 11 from Darjeeling, India 2-1 in the second quarter-final held on Sunday.

The match saw a strong performance from NRT, with Neymar and Martin finding the back of the net to seal the victory. Despite a spirited effort from the visiting team, GTA 11, who pulled one back through Bhaichung Rai, they were unable to break through NRT’s defense in the final moments. Rai’s goal was the only highlight for the Indian side in an otherwise challenging contest.

NRT’s Jaya Gurung was named Man of the Match for his all-around contribution, playing a key role in both attack and defense throughout the game.

With this win, NRT joins the other three semi-finalists as the tournament edges closer to its finale. The third quarter-final is set to take place on Monday, November 24, between Tribhuvan Army Football Club and Church Boys United Club, Kathmandu.
