
Church Boys United Club, Kathmandu has become the last team to enter the semi-finals of the Control Lubricants 14th Itahari Gold Cup International Invitational Knockout Football Tournament held here.
Towards the fourth quarter-final held on Tuesday, Church Boys defeated Neuroteam (NRT) 2-1 and became the last team to enter the last four. Abayomi Fakunle scored the first goal for Church Boys in the 37th minute in the match at Itahari Stadium.
However, in the 82nd minute of the game, Afiz Olawale equalized for NRT. However, NRT could not celebrate the happiness of that equalizing goal for long. After two minutes, Suraj Jeu Thakuri scored the decisive second goal for the Church Boys and ensured the victory of the team.
Suraj Jeu Thakuri, who scored the decisive goal in the match, was chosen as the man of the match. Under the competition, the first semi-final match on Wednesday 14th Chaitra will be played between Sagarmatha Youth Club, Morang and Tribhuvan Army Football Club, Kathmandu, informed the organizers.
The winner of the inaugural competition, organized by National Awakening Club, Itahari, will receive 10 lakhs in cash along with the title, while the runner-up will receive 5 lakhs. The final match will be held on the 17th of Chaitra.
