14th Khumbu Lhosar Cup, the premier sporting event of the Khumbu community, is kicking off today.

Jointly organized by Yambu Thamichho Kydug and Thamichhowa Youth Group, the tournament is set to captivate football enthusiasts from February 12th to 19th, 2024 at Sanogaucharan football grounds.

Eight formidable teams, including Thamichhowa Football Team, Namche Youth Group, Amadablam Youth Club, Khumjung Youth Club, Mahendra Jyoti Ex-Student Forum, Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Samaj (Juving Sherpa Kyidug), Khunde Community Club, and Khumbu Veterans, will vie for glory in this prestigious event. The winning team will be honored with a cash prize of Rupees One Lakh, the coveted Lhosar Cup Trophy, certificates, and medals.

Runner-up and 2nd runner-up teams will not be left empty-handed, receiving Rupees Fifty Thousand and Rupees Twenty-Five Thousand respectively, along with certificates and medals. The stakes are high, promising fierce competition and memorable moments on the football field.

Yambu Thamichho Kydug and Thamichhowa Youth Group, the leading organizations of the Thamichho region, boast a rich legacy with connections to renowned mountaineers like Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, Apa Sherpa, Kami Rita Sherpa, Ang Rita Sherpa (Snow Leopard), Lakpa Rita Sherpa, Ngima Nuru Sherpa, and many others who have left an indelible mark on the world of mountaineering.

Heading the organizing team is Mingma Sherpa, the immediate past president of Yambu Thamichho Kydug, a distinguished social activist, youth tourism entrepreneur, and respected leader of the region. Assisting him are the presidents of Yambu Thamichho Kydug and Thamichhowa Youth Group, while Ngima Tenzing Sherpa and Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa, the general secretary and immediate general secretary of Kydug respectively, serve as key members of the secretariat.
