
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has expressed his condolences to the All India Football Federation over the passing of its former President and Union Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi who passed away in New Delhi on Monday.
The AFC President also expressed his condolences to Dasmunsi fanily.
"Mr. Dasmunsi will always be remembered for his passion, dedication and numerous valuable contributions towards Indian sports, AFC and FIFA - as President of AIFF, member of the AFC Executive Committee, Chairman AFC Legal Committee, Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association, member of FIFA Technical Study Group - to name a few.
"The whole Asian football family shares the grief felt by the Indian football fraternity and is saddened at his loss. He dedicated his life for the development and promotion of Indian football and was instrumental in laying the foundations for its growth," said Shaikh Salman.
Dasmunsi took charge of the AIFF in December 1988 and served as the President of the Indian FA for 20 long years.
He did not face any competition in AIFF elections until 2000 when then JCT chief Samir Thapar decided to contest but Dasmunsi defeated him 23-10 to continue as the President.
After his heart attack in 2008, Praful Patel took charge as the AIFF chief.
