The Indian Army, which is in excellent form towards the prestigious 133rd Durand Cup, won its second consecutive victory on Wednesday towards the group stage. Indian Army defeated Chennaiyin FC in their first Group D match and won 3-0 against Assam Rifles on Wednesday.
Alan Thapa, a former National Youth and A Division player of Nepal, scored the first goal in the seventh minute of the match for the Indian Army in Jamshedpur. The second goal was scored by Pradeep from the penalty in the 68th minute and the third goal was scored by Sunil in the 90th minute.
After this victory, the Indian Army has strengthened the possibility of entering the knockout phase. The home team Jamshedpur FC and Indian Army are in the first and second place respectively with 6-6 points from two matches. Scoreless Chennaiyin and Assam Rifles have been eliminated from the group stage by finishing third and fourth respectively.
In the last match of the group stage, Indian Army and Jamshedpur FC will meet on August 14. The result of the match between these two will decide the top team that will enter the knockout stage from Group D.
