The Nepali national football team suffered a disappointing defeat against the home team Bahrain in the first match of FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027.

Nepal, who played as their home match, lost to the home team by 5-0 in the Bahrain National Stadium located in Rifa city.

After conceding two goals at the beginning of the game, Nepal coceded three goals in the second half. Mehdi Al-Humaidan scored the first goal for Bahrain in the second minute of the match.

Two minutes later, Syed Nasser doubled the lead. Likewise, Ali Madan added the third goal for Bahrain in the extra time of the first half. Towards the end of the game, Nepal scored two more goals.

In the 87th minute, Ibrahim Al-Khatai scored the fourth goal for Bahrain, while Ismail Abdulatif scored the fifth goal from the penalty in injury time to ensure the victory of the home team.

The upcoming match between Nepal and Bahrain will be played as an away match on March 27 at the Bahrain National Stadium. On the other hand, UAE, which is in Group H of Nepal and Bahrain, won 2-1 over Yemen.

UAE is at the top of Group H with 9 points from three games. Bahrain is in second place with 6 points while Yemen is in third place with 3 points. Nepal without points is at the bottom.
