News India Doesn't Stop There - Playing King's Cup In Thailand

After winning back to back international tournaments, India are again locking horns in another international tournaments.

This time, they will fly to Thailand to take part in Kings cup 2023. India won Hero intercontinental cup & SAFF championship 2023.

King’s Cup 2023 tournament will be played in Thailand from September 7 to 10. The draw and the host city are yet to be confirmed by the Football Association of Thailand.

India will take this tournament as a tune up ahead of AFC Asian cup 2023 that Qatar is hosting.

The King's Cup is an annual international football tournament held in Thailand since 1968. Hosts Thailand have played in every edition. The 49th edition of the football competition will feature four teams - Iraq, India, Lebanon and hosts Thailand.

The 2007 Asian champions Iraq, currently ranked 67th in the world, will be the top team in the competition. India are ranked 100.

The King’s Cup 2023 will be conducted in a knockout format. The semi-finals will be held on September 7, with the third-place match and the final scheduled for September 10. The Indian men's football team last participated in the King's Cup in 2019. India finished third after losing 3-1 to Curacao in the semi-finals and then beating Thailand 1-0 to win the bronze medal. Anirudh Thapa scored the winning goal. India have competed in the King’s Cup twice. They finished third in 1977 too. In the last edition in 2022, Tajikistan emerged as winners with a win over Malaysia in the final. Thailand beat Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 to settle for third place.
