News Nepal Defeat India, Into The Semis Of SAFF U17 As Group Winners

Nepal have made it into the semifinals of the ongoing SAFF U-17 Championship as the group winners. Nepal finished top on group B after a stellar 3-1 victory over India at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo.

Nepal had to come back from a goal behind to trounce the Indian side. Danny Meitri gave India the lead in the 17th minute of the match. But towards the end of the first half, substitute Saroj Darlami's strike from outside the box found the way into the back of the net over the Indian goalkeeper Sahil. The first half ended 1-1.

At the start of the second half, Nepal took the lead. Unesh Budhathoki netted his second goal of the tournament. A well placed finish into the bottom left corner of the Indian goal gave Nepal a 2-1 lead.

Nepal added another goal in the 68th minute. Subash Bam went through on goal and chipped the ball into the back of the net as he saw the goalkeeper came off the line.

Nepal will now face the either of Sri Lanka and Maldives in the second semifinal of the tournament on September 12. Sri Lanka and Maldives are set to face each other later today which will decide Nepal's opponents.

India will face Bangladesh in the first semifinal on the same day. The final of the tournament will be played on September 14.

Six SAARC nations are participating in the tournament hosted by Sri Lanka.
