Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, popularly known as "Nimsdai" is going on an expedition to take the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar official match ball "Al Rihla" to the top of the world. Nirmal, who became popular after climbing all 14 peaks above 8000 meters in the shortest time, will go on the expedition alongside Qatari climber Sheikha Asma Al Thani.

Nirmal wrote through his Facebook account, "Sport is about uniting people and supporting each other – it shows us that no matter where we are from, we can come together and create something great".

"The ball has already gone all the way to base camp where we had a bit of a practice kick around. It has been part of the traditional puja ceremony – worship to ask the Gods for safe passage, and now we are preparing to take it on the acclimatization routes up to the higher camps", he added.

It was confirmed earlier this year about Al Thani's expedition to Mt. Everest as she becomes the first Qatari woman to attempt climbing to the top of the world.
