News A Division League: Round Seven Preview
Sandesh Sigdel

The stakes at the top of the Martyr's Memorial A Division League couldn't be higher as we enter the seventh match-week. With the league break approaching and the final match-week before the AFC Cup qualification berth is determined, the next round will be a crucial one.

Seven exciting ties for the upcoming four days in the Nepali top division:

APF vs Army

The battle between two departmental sides will see a slowly improving APF side face Tribhuvan Army who still haven’t hit the gas as much as they would have liked so far. Army are fourth in the table, left behind by Sankata after Army’s goalless draw against Three Star Club. APF are showing signs of improvement and are 11th with five points on the board.

Friends vs NRT

Friends Club are still at the bottom and haven’t really shown any signs of improvement, nor have they looked to have changed the approach they take to each matchday. NRT are coming off a 3-3 draw against APF where they looked comfortably 3-1 up but conceded two quickly to get away with just a point. NRT are eighth with seven points but their improvement every match and Friends’ abysmal run so far makes them the favorites.

Stars vs Jawalakhel

The feeling in the Stars camp must be about the disappointment of the number of draws they have played so far. Four of the six outings of the Stars have ended in a draw. And they are seventh with seven points. Jawalakhel, on the other hand, made it two wins in a row against Satdobato in what was a somehow surprising result after not scoring a single goal in the first four matches. They must be pumped going into this match looking at how much Three Star have struggled to find the goal to get all three points to make it three wins in a row.

MMC vs BBC

Manang were left stunned last week with a thunderous free-kick from Sunil Bal in stoppage time. The loss vs Machhindra was a big barrier in their hunt for the AFC Cup qualification berth at the end of the upcoming game week. Manang have 13 points and would be looking for Machhindra on 14 points to slip and take advantage of that to qualify for the continental stage. Brigade Boys are meanwhile just out of the relegation zone on five points.

Sankata vs Chyasal

Bishnu Gurung’s Sankata with the way they are playing are many people’s favorites to take all three points every time they step onto the pitch. And against a struggling Chyasal side, they are rightly the favorites. Chyasal are in the relegation zone and their spending has not looked much significant when it comes to their performances on the pitch. Their star, yet young signing Bikash Meraglia does look lost and they are letting goals in easily which is not a good thing when you are facing a flying Sankata side. Chyasal are in the relegation zone with four points while Sankata are third in the table on 12 points, just two points away from the leaders, Machhindra.

Police vs Machhindra

Nepal Police Club are lingering in 10th with just six points on board so far. And for their opponents, defending champions Machhindra would be looking to seal their place at the AFC Cup qualifications by bettering the result of second-placed Manang. However, any slip up and a Manang victory would see Manang qualify. So, a lot is at stake for Machhindra against Police this week.

Satdobato vs Sherpa

The battle of fifth and sixth, equal on points Satdobato and Himalayan Sherpa will be a close encounter, at least on paper. With a bit of wind in their sails recently, Satdobato will be looking to get back to winning ways while the Mountaineers are looking to continue their fine run of form.
